Directions in Graphic Communication - Evaluation

When I first got the Rain brief, I was really excited with all the things I could do and all of the different medias that I could experiment with. I think that I did act upon some of that excitement and produced some great monoprints and the ink experiments went well too but I definitely think partly way through I lost my idea and just got a bit distracted. This was partly due to the 3 week holiday but also because I didn’t have any ideas that I thought I could push very far. So in a way I did find it quite difficult.

I think my final poster design works well and does portray the right message but maybe I could have had a deeper message or a different idea. I enjoyed doing it once I had my idea. I could have definitely produced something better with different time scales but as we only had 3 weeks I think my poster was successful.

Then I got the branding the show brief and I was so worried about getting everything done within the 2 weeks. It meant working fast and churning out loads of ideas in a small amount of time. But I think I have handled that really well and I am so happy with how my final designs turned out. I think I could have pushed the experiments further and maybe tried some other ideas but because I had so little time I felt like concentrating all of my focus on the idea I felt worked.

Overall I am happy with the outcome of this brief as a whole and it has shown me that even under such time restraints I can complete all of my work to a standard I am happy with and this will definitely boost my confidence for assignments next year!

These are my final designs for the branding of the Design Show. I think as a set they work really well and the theme is kept throughout. I am pleased with the outcome.

Final poster for the Rain Brief. I thought it needed something extra as the white background wasn’t working. This works much better and I think adding the ink gives it that little but more depth.

The reverse of the flyers. I wanted to keep them simple because of the other busier side. I think they work well and still keep the branding with the use of the logo.

So after finishing my poster I decided to make the leaflets. To do this I took sections of the final poster and made them larger so they’re just glimpses of what the real things about.

On the reverse side will be all of the info but I just thought it was a nice idea to keep some mystery to them.

Since my logo was so successful I thought I’d try and make it a center piece in a poster too! I think it works well and with the background clearly links the whole show together. I am happy with how it’s turned out considering it was a last minute, genius idea!

So here are some final composition arrangements for my poster. I think the bottom image works the best so this will be one of my final posters..

So here is my logo. I had to play around for a while to make sure the composition worked and the colours balanced but I think it’s great now. I can’t wait to see it on the poster. I think the link in style definitely goes and the colours are taken from the type so they do fit in, but combine them all.

I realised my poster was missing something that was key to the brief! A logo. Now I already have the title of the show: Who’s your type? As it clearly links in with the whole idea of the poster and also can be clearly identified through the use of colour. I think this could make a really good logo and will try and make sure it has the same look/style of the poster.

Thought I’d try out some alternative colour schemes but they don’t work as well as the original, I don’t think they have the same look together, the original clashes in a good way but these just don’t work unfortunately.

Experimenting with the background because I do love the white space but didn’t want it to be too simple, but now, seeing these outcomes I really think white works best as it brings out the colours within the type.

Playing around with size to try and make it appropriate for the poster, I feel like the more white space is used the more the type will stand out. I think scaling it down slightly works and brings in the focus more.

Here are some experiments with layout and as you can see, I have missed out a subject so I will probably have to play about with this more but! I think it’s going well now I’ve experimented with layout, it doesn’t look to block like.

I have been playing around with how to make each subject stand out and think colour could be the way forward, but I don’t think this is working. Something is missing from it and I think the composition is all wrong. I am thinking about trying out different sizes to see how that works..

Trying to sort out the composition of the poster, it’s harder than I expected and will need some playing around with. I just hope this idea ends up being successful because at the moment it’s not as I imagined. I don’t want a clutter of words, I want them to link yet stand out from one another.. I’ll have to work on this.

I also need to add all of the subjects!
